Showcasing local talent was a priority in the design of Narina Trogon. With Johannesburg architect, Charles van Breda, the goal was to create an environment akin in spirit to a sand forest (where the elusive Narina Trogon dwells). In addition, we wanted the space to be multifunctional and homey. Our wonderful team put care and attention into each and every detail. The depth and breadth of talented South African craftspeople and designers made the effort easy.
Led by renowned Johannesburg architect, Charles van Breda, the talented design team had one common denominator: not a single member had any previous experience designing a restaurant. We adopted the view that you ‘can’t break the rules if you don’t know them’. It proved to be an attitude that served us well.
Creative geniuses, Mariette Theron and Nikola Daniels of Whimsical & Myrrh, provided a guiding eye in terms of the overall design palette. While Megan Mackenzie, noted local landscape designer, planned our bamboo garden with Mariette.
